Transformational bursaries at The College

Sky over BathCurrently we have over 100 students on means tested bursaries with three of these pupils on transformational bursaries. We plan to at least double the figure of these significant and life changing bursaries for the next academic year.

Transformational bursaries help bring children from socio-economic backgrounds not normally associated with an independent education, to the College. They are designed to transform the life chances of a young boy or girl by providing financial support to cover fees and costs of a boarding or day place (depending on their situation) at the College.

The pupil will come from a family who, for financial reasons would not normally consider an independent education a possibility for their child. These families also tend to be unaware of the availability of such bursaries. The overriding criteria for receiving a bursary will be the financial circumstances of the family, and for a transformational bursary, this need, although means tested, will be immediately obvious.

We have recently gained accreditation from the charity, Royal Springboard, who will help identify young people who we might be able to help. They will ensure that these life changing opportunities are targeted towards young people who most need them:

“...those that have faced challenging circumstances – children and teenagers in or on the edge of care, or growing up in households and communities where opportunities to flourish are limited."

There are many charities with a mission to improve young people’s life chances. As our transformational bursary applicants are also assessed on what contribution they are likely to make to the life of the College, we offer our alumni, parents and friends the chance to transform a life and at the same time help enhance the learning experience for everyone else the College. If you want to take part in this programme, please contact Declan Rainey, the Director of Development.
