Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope

Prior Prior College Astronomy  Society presents

Exploring the extreme universe

with former pupil, Dr Julie McEnery (PPA 1989)

Dr Julie McEneryJoin us for intergalactic drinks and canapés before we listen to  NASA Astrophysicist, Dr McEnery’s, talk: Exploring the Extreme Universe.

Julie will tell us about the dramatically new view of the universe given to us by the new Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope. This view is dominated by black holes, ultra-dense and highly magnetic stars, remnants of stellar explosions, and much more.

Julie is a gifted scientist and speaker and has assured us that even the least space worthy amongst us will not be plunged into a dark dense hole of confusion and bewilderment.

Julie will also will review some of the scientific highlights from the past decade with an emphasis on the surprises and remaining unanswered questions.

There is a £10 entrance fee, but please feel free to make a further donation as all funds raised from this event will support the Society’s plans for a new observatory.
